Chrysanthemums thrive in full sun with well-drained, compost-rich soil and benefit from consistent watering to keep the soil lightly moist but never waterlogged. Plant with space for airflow, feed regularly during active growth, and pinch back early tips to encourage bushy plants and abundant blooms rather than leggy stems.
Taller varieties may need staking as they grow. Flowering naturally occurs in autumn as days shorten, after which plants can be cut back and mulched to protect them through winter. With good light, regular feeding, and simple maintenance, they are reliable, productive plants both in the garden and for cutting.
