rooted in the seasons
Our bearded iris and dahlia collections are grown by hand in the Dandenong Ranges, where soil and season shape every petal.
Each plant carries the quiet artistry of the farm – a living piece of Thistle & Weeds to bring into your own garden.
From our beds to yours: a slow kind of beauty, meant to last.

Bearded Iris
your questions answered
Our bearded iris rhizomes are available seasonally, usually from late summer through early autumn. Availability depends on the rhythm of the farm - once lifting and dividing begin, we release small batches until sold out. To be first to know when new varieties are listed, join our mailing list.
Unfortunately, due to recently introduced biosecurity restrictions for Tomato-Potato Psyllid (TPP), we are currently only able to ship within Victoria.
Bearded iris love full sun and free-draining soil. Plant the rhizome so it rests just at the surface, with roots beneath and the top exposed to light and air. Water well after planting, then allow the soil to dry between rains. They thrive on simplicity - sunlight, space and a little patience.
We take great care to ensure every rhizome arrives healthy and true to variety. If you notice any damage or concerns upon arrival, please get in touch within 48 hours of receiving your order so we can make it right.

meet the farmer-florist
I began Thistle & Weeds out of a longing for flowers with real substance - grown slowly, in rhythm with the land and alive with the wild.
Every stem starts its life on my small farm in Avonsleigh, nurtured with patience, gathered by hand and composed with care.
No imports. No shortcuts. Just honest, seasonal flowers with soul.
